A few months back, my daughter wanted to make a clothes pin doll kit for her friend. I thought it was a great idea. We went and bought the needed supplies, got a cute little bag to store the kit in and even made up directions to go along with it. We had so much fun that we made a couple more kits up for her cousins!We thought we would share these directions with you. This is a simple inexpensive craft that kids always have fun making!
What you'll need:
Clothes pins (sold at any craft store)
Small fabric remnants
Glue
Yarn or floss
Scissors
Markers
Other things you might want to use for decoration:
sequins
flowers
shells
ribbon
stickers
rub-ons
glitter
buttons
DIRECTIONS
Using your markers, draw a face on your doll. The split in the clothespin should be in the middle- centered with the face (so they look like legs for your doll).
Pick out the fabric you want to use for the dress. Based on a 4" clothes pin, you would want to use a piece of fabric sized at 2"w x 1"h for shirts, 2"w x 2"h for skirts and 2"w x 3"h for dresses. Of course these are just guidelines!
To attach clothes, either put glue on the fabric or glue on the doll and wrap the fabric around the doll. If you want, you can give your doll a ribbon belt.
For hair, cut several pieces of the yarn or floss to the lengths you want and glue to your doll’s head. Another option for hair is to draw it on with a marker.
If you want, you can also give your doll a flower or a sea shell hat.
For the wings, cut the petals of a flower apart and glue to your doll’s back.
Decorate your doll and her wings with sequins, glitter, rub-ons and such.
Your doll is now complete!

Clothespin Dolls are a lot of fun. Thanks for posting these instructions. There is a website where you can buy kits with everthing to make clothespin people and ornaments. Check out http://www.clothespincraftkits.com. They have cute designs for Mothers Day, Independence Day, Graduation, Christmas, Thanksgiving. I can go on and on.
I'd love to make one of these, however I only have the clothespin with the two pieces of wood and a spring! Is there any way I can still make something with it?
I'm sure you could adapt the directions to a spring clothes pin. The "legs" would just be further apart so your skirt fabric would need to be larger. You could even glue a round wooden bead to the top to make a "head". If you're looking to get the same kind of clothespins we used, I believe they are available at most craft store and Walmart. We purchased ours at Michaels but Ive even seen them at the dollar store. Hope this helped you :)
